Distance Ed and Down Syndrome

A Parent’s Guide to Supporting Learning at Home

The Project

I created this course for 321 eLearning, a company in Texas dedicated to the support of the Down Syndrome community. The goal was to create an online resource for parents of children with Down syndrome who were facing the challenges that come with supporting their child’s curriculum in the home environment during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Strategy

Using the ADDIE instructional design strategy as a framework, I created and implemented a detailed project plan that followed a five-phase process. I conducted an analysis of the company and its intended audience for the project and used the resulting data to design an engaging and effective e-learning experience.

The Design

Designed with the busy parent in mind, this course includes simple, engaging content that can be digested at the learner’s own pace. Knowledge checks aid in information retention and pre-test and post-test results show what knowledge has been gained. Formatted to be completely accessible on a mobile device, the visual layout is streamlined to be engaging without being overwhelming.

The Roll-out

After I developed the course in Articulate Rise, I designed and implemented a process for evaluating the learners’ ability to achieve the established learning outcomes as a result of completing the course. I used the results to identify and revise the content in need of improvement and finally published the course for public use at 321eLearning.com. Click the button below to check out the course.
